Integrative Massage Workshop

"The notes I handle no better than many pianists,
but the pauses between the notes
ah, that is where the art resides."
~ Arthur Schnabel

~ Integrative Massage is a form of bodywork that includes a variety of somatic and energetic therapies blended seamlessly into a massage-based session.  By its nature, IM is sensuous, intuitive, spontaneous, and fun.  The style of this work is deeply influenced by Esalen® massage, undoubtedly the foundation form of modern holistic massage therapy. The essence of IM as taught in this course is fluidity, connection, breath, and flow.  We'll explore the 'One stroke' and embody the powerful, evocative element of water as we flow through this conscious practice.  This workshop will also include elements of 'integrative mobilisation' and 'zero-gravity work'.  The content is as varied as the many practitioners who have been touched by and have influenced this heartful and meditative practice.

Integrative Bodywork Workshop

"Bodywork is a kind of sensorimotor education, rather than a treatment
or a procedure in the sense of modern medicine.  The bodyworker is not an interventionist but a facilitator, a diplomatic intermediary...
~  Deane Juhan, Job's Body

~ The Integrative Bodywork Workshop is an overview course outlining four approaches to Integrative Bodywork.  IB as shared in this workshop is an eclectic healing art form that includes a variety of somatic and energetic therapies blended into a table session.  The approaches of Integrative Bodywork can be easily applied to any massage or bodywork form.  We work with proprioceptive response, myofascial unwinding, Integrative Massage, and stillness to create a fluid, spontaneous, and skilled bodywork session.  The principle of integration applies not only to seamless transition from one technique to another, but also from one region of the body to another and one level of awareness (mind, body, emotion, energy) to another. By its nature, IB is sensuous, intuitive, and fun.  The massage style in this work is derived from Esalen® massage, undoubtedly the foundation form of modern holistic massage therapy.  The content is as varied as the many practitioners who have been touched by and have influenced this heartful and meditative practice.

Self-Care for Massage Therapists & Bodyworkers

"God didn't come down and tell me; I had to find it
out through many years of experience.  The work
came first; the inspiration came later."
~ Ida Rolf

~ As a massage therapist or bodyworker, your most valuable tool of the trade is you.  This workshop is an information-rich day designed to help you develop strategies for self-care.  Using hands-on demonstration, discussion, and movement, as well as simple techniques such as Soft Tissue Release, Deep Transverse Friction, and cryotherapy, we'll identify and care for areas of the body prone to practitioner overuse. We'll learn lengthening and strengthening techniques intended to prevent repetitive stress injuries.  Exchanging bodywork will, of course be an essential part of the day.  Take away plenty of information to pass on to your clients.

The Autumnal Equinox is a time of equal night and day, a time to seek and find balance and harvest the fruits of our labour.  This workshop is during the week leading up to the Autumnal Equinox and a perfect way to begin the journey inward after the blossoming and expansiveness of Spring and Summer.

Spirit in Bodywork

"Energy is the hyphen in psycho-somatic."
~ Hugh Milne, founder of Visionary Craniosacral Work

~ Stillness in Motion: that is one way to describe this experiential Winter Solstice weekend - all about the potent efficacy of being in your bodywork practice. In this practical workshop, we will explore the effect of the practitioner's consciousness on the bodywork experience.  We'll delve into the fluid energetic and molecular properties of bone and soft tissue to encourage deep unwinding and a felt sense of spaciousness in the body

Whether we call ourselves 'massage therapists', 'bodyworkers', 'energyworkers', or 'lightworkers', we are always working with the energy body.  Simply stated, energy is...  whether or not we are conscious of its presence.  This course is designed to help you integrate an awareness of the energy body into your massage and bodywork sessions.  We will bring together this awareness of energy and our knowledge of anatomical structure through:
  • insight meditation practices
Through some discussion and plenty of hands-on work, we will begin to develop our own bespoke, eclectic form for working with the power of presence and the energy anatomy.  You may attend either or both days of this weekend course.

Integrative Mobilisation Playshop

"The art of medicine consists
in amusing the patient
while nature cures the disease."
~ Voltaire (1694 - 1778)

~ This weekend is for practitioners who would like to bring an eclectic, yet simple fusion of bodywork techniques to their table massage practice.  During this course we will:
  • fluidly and seamlessly blend joint mobilisation, range of motion, and muscle lengthening techniques into long massage strokes

  • learn to work – and play! – by combining the subtle language of fascial unwinding and the dynamic movement of joint mobilisation
  • explore 'zero-gravity work' – working under the body, as well as moving the body on the table to add an element of 'dynamic support' to your massage and bodywork session

  • use leverage, momentum, and optimal body mechanics for effortless, powerful movement
  • Practitioners of every strength, skill, and experience level will come away with tools they can add to their body of work.

    Deep Tissue/Deep Stuctures:  'Fascia-nating!'

"The human body has been designed to resist an infinite number of changes and attacks brought about by its environment. The secret of good health lies in successful adjustment to changing stresses on the body."
    ~ Harry J. Johnson

~ ‘Deepening your relationship with the intelligence of connective tissue will enable you to do effortless and effective “deep tissue” work.’  This course is designed to give you a greater, experiential understanding of how to work with fascia, connective tissue, and the reflex arcs of the body.  We’ll  use postural/structural observation and a variety of very simple - don't let the fancy names fool you - techniques such as:
    • PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretching
    • STR (Soft Tissue Release)
    • eschemic compression
    • DTF (Deep Transverse Friction)
    • myofascial release (direct and indirect)
    • letting gravity be your best friend
We will address fascial binding and adhesions before exploring some key core structures and specific 'transition points' for deeeeep release from head to feet.  Attention will be given to working with, rather than against fascial and proprioceptive resistance in the body for effortless efficacy.  We’ll focus on powerful body posture and optimal use of the practitioner’s ‘tools’.
